Lowes Court Gallery is thrilled to announce that Helen Greenop, local lass and renowned botanical illustrator will open Lowes Court’s Summer Exhibition, which runs from 3-27 June 2014.
Lowes Court Gallery Summer Exhibition
Helen grew up in Thornhill and studied at Carlisle College of Art and Design followed by training at the Royal College of Art in London in Natural History Illustration. This lead to a varied and exciting career which saw her travel the globe including taking part in expeditions to the Commonwealth of Dominica in the West Indies as a botanical illustrator.
Her beautifully detailed and precise watercolours will be familiar to many as the floral prints we enjoyed on fabrics and home furnishings in the 1990s from such famous high street brands as Laura Ashley, John Lewis and Marks and Spencer.
Helen has returned to West Cumbria to bring up her family and continue her career in illustration, concentrating now on charcoal portraits and enjoying painting now much more for fun and enjoyment.
“I am absolutely delighted that Helen has agreed to open our Summer Exhibition. Helen is a fine example of the charitable aims of Lowes Court in action. As a charitable association our aim is help up-coming artists to find a place to show their work and gain the confidence to take their careers to the next level. Helen has shown just where local support can lead for aspiring artists”, said Susan Denham-Smith, Manager at Lowes Court Gallery.
This year’s Summer Exhibition includes work by artists from across Cumbria, both members of the association and new artists. There is a variety of framed painting and photography work on show as well as textile art and upcycled furniture. The show runs throughout June on Tuesday to Saturday 10-5pm every day (4pm Saturday) Entry is free.
