Madiba distances himself from auction

Pretoria – Former President Nelson Mandela has distanced himself from an auction in which the London Auction House is reported to have sold some artwork allegedly associated to Madiba.

In a statement, his legal team Chuene Incorporated said: “It has come to the attention of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela that an Auction of certain artwork allegedly associated with him is scheduled to take place on the 27 October 2010 at Bonhams firm based in London.

“Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela wishes to categorically state that he strongly disassociates himself with such an auction.”

The lawyers further said the purported artwork does not enjoy the former President’s blessing.

“It is important to bear in mind that the said artwork is presently the subject matter of a legal dispute in South Africa. Any alleged auction, distribution and/or sale of artwork associated with him is extremely deplored,” the lawyers said. – BuaNews
