Talented artist to be showcased at Fig Tree
The Fig Tree restaurant in Penarth has selected the work of Therese James, a full-time artist of the ‘Naive School’ to be exhibited at the restaurant.
South Wales-born Therese has been painting since 1993, and her work can be seen in galleries throughout the UK, and her work is also in collections as far afield as America, New Zealand and Hong Kong. [Read more...]

Survival chosen as Art London charity
Survival has been chosen as one of the charities for Art London (6-10 October 2011).
To coincide Ghislain Pascal, Director of The Little Black Gallery and long time supporter of Survival, has curated an exhibition of photographs which will all be sold in aid of Survival’s work for threatened tribal peoples. They include some of the greatest names in contemporary photography: Bob Carlos Clarke, Harry Cory Wright, Raymond Depardon, Duffy, Joey L, Chris Levine, Patrick Lichfield, Terry O’Neill, and Sebastiao Salgado, amongst others.

Cornerhouse has established a tradition of showing an annual exhibition by a contemporary Spanish or Latin American artist to complement the hugely popular iViva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival. This year Cornerhouse presents a solo show by leading Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz. It features the video installation Biografías (2002) and single screen projection Línea del destino (Line of Destiny) (2006). Oscar Muñoz: Biografías runs from 5-27 March and admission is free. Sakul Intakul’s Book Launch And Floral Exhibition
The art of modern floral design is the subject of a new exhibition showcasing the work of Thailand’s acclaimed floral artist, Sakul Intakul, at Tamarind Village Chiang Mai.
Entitled ‘FlorESSENCE: The Essence of Modern Flower Design’, the exhibition will run between 19th February until 31st May 2011 and will feature a series of striking photographic images of the designer’s work and a multi-piece Lanna (Northern Thai) contemporary floral installation created by Intakul himself for the occasion.
Intakul, whose career spans more than two decades and whose floral creations have graced palaces and some of the world’s most exclusive hotels and private residences, continues to challenge himself as an artist exploring his medium through his work and writings. The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the launch of Intakul’s book of the same name. The first volume in a planned two-part series, FlorESSENCE: follows on the artist’s other successful publications including Tropical Colours: The Art of Living With Tropical Flowers and Dok Mai Thai: The Flower Culture of Thailand. The Orient Museum in Lisbon has launched an inaugural exhibition on ‘Namban art’, a rare collection of over 60 pieces of ‘Namban’ furniture, textiles, arms and paintings. The Portuguese were the first Europeans in Japan and ‘Namban art’ is any artistic expression from Japan and China in the 16th and 17th centuries that resulted from the influence of these European sailors. The body, this unknown. In his research spanning a period of 30 years Antony Gormley (London 1950) has never stopped looking into the relationship between the human body and the surrounding space, moving from drawing to sculpture. If, at first, he used to favour the ironic representation of man as controlled from within by a little puppet (Mansion, 1982) or shapd like a sort of leafy shrub (Untitled, 1983), in time he proceeded to create abstract forms in the attempt to establish a connection between the human body and other subjects.
